William J. Giakas, M.D.
Dr. Giakas completed his psychiatry residency at the Yale University School of Medicine. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in General Psychiatry, and the Subspecialites of Forensic Psychiatry (Psychiatry and the Law) and Geriatric Psychiatry. He is also board-certified by the American Board of Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Giakas is a frequent lecturer, a speaker for the pharmaceutical industry, and is an expert consultant for a variety of legal issues.
Angie Brechlin, APN
Angie is a licensened psychiatric advanced practice nurse with over 20 years of experience in mental health. She joined Rockford Psychiatric Medical Services, S.C. in 2013 and provides mental health evaluation and treatment for all ages.
Colette Carter, APN
Colette is a board certified adult-gerontology nurse practitioner who provides mental health evaluation and treatment for adolescent and adult populations. She graduated Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Public Health, Saint Anthony College of Nursing with a BSN, and University of Cincinatti with a Master's Degree in Nursing. She joined Rockford Psychiatric Medical Services, S.C. in 2014. She has a diverse background in health care, spent 8 years on active duty in the US Air Force at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, and has worked with patients in outpatient and acute care settings.
Brenda Beard, LCSW
Brenda is a licensed clinical social worker with 23 years of experience in a variety of treatment settings. She joined the practice in 2013 and has expertise in individual, family and group therapy, and treats clients of all ages. Brenda approaches the treatment of depression, anxiety, personality disorders, childhood sexual abuse, atttachement issues and other problems from a range of perspectives including psychoanalytic psychotherapy, spirituality, and mindfullness meditiation, and she is grounded in the foundations of the biological manifestations of mental illness and therapy approaches.
Brenda's warmth, unconditional acceptance and humor quickly sets people at ease. Your therapeutic relationship becomes the building block to safely explore and resolve the pain and symptoms that trouble you.

Rachel Rothermel, LMFT
Rachel Rothermel is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Rachel earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Central Missouri in Child and Family Development. She continued her studies at Northern Illinois University in Applied Child and Family Studies with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. After graduating with her Master’s Degree, Rachel began working with children and families at Lutheran Social Services.
She helped children and families overcome trauma experiences, parenting challenges, and develop a safe and stable home environment. Rachel works with children ages 3-18, adults and families with PTSD, ADHD, ODD, anxiety, depression, and adjustment problems. She also has training working with couples, divorce, and co-parenting issues. She utilizes a strength based and family systems perspective when working with youth, families, and individuals. She also utilizes play therapy and expressive techniques. Rachel believes that forming a healthy therapeutic relationship is key to making successful life changes.
